Scroll and edit the command history. Press <Enter> to execute a historical command (to save on typing). <ArrowDown> scrolls back.
<Shift><PgUp>
Scroll terminal output up.
<Shift><PgDown>
scrolls the terminal output down.
<Ctrl><Alt><Del>
(in text terminal) Shut down the system and reboot
<Ctrl>c
Kill the current process
<Ctrl>d
Log out from the current terminal.
<Ctrl>s
Stop the transfer to the terminal
<Ctrl>q
Resume the transfer to the terminal.
pwd:
The pwd command will allow you to know in which directory you are located
whoami :
Print the user name associated with the current effective user id
ls :
The ls command will show you (‘list’) the files in your current directory
cd:
The cd command will allow you to change directories.
To navigate into the root directory, use “cd /”
To navigate previous directory level, use “cd ..”
cp:
The cp command will make a copy of a file for you
mv:
The mv command will move a file to a different location or will rename a file.
rm:
Use this command to remove or delete a file in your directory
rmdir:
The rmdir command will delete an empty directory.
mkdir:
The mkdir command will allow you to create directories.eg: mkdir risposta ,this will create a folder named risposta in the working directory
man:
The man command is used to show you the manual of other commands eg: man man
–help:
getting help of corresponding command eg: cp –help
ifconfig:
this gives system ip address
yum:
Yum is an automatic updater and package installer/remover for rpm systems. It automatically computes dependencies and figures out what things should occur to install packages. eg:yum install firefox
shutdown
shutdown -h now
halt
poweroff
init 0
restart
shutdown -r now
Hi, I’m very interested in Linux but Im a Super Newbie and I’m having trouble deciding on the right distribution for me (Havent you heard this a million times?) anyway here is my problem, I need a distribution that can switch between reading and writing in English and Japanese (Japanese Language Support) with out restarting the operating system.
